According to Marca.com, Chelsea is set to offer Atletico Madrid £19m for defender Miranda.
The 29-year-old had a fantastic season playing alongside Diego Godin in the heart of Atletico Madrid’s defense last season as they enjoyed a success- winning the Spanish La Liga and only lost the Uefa Champions League final to fellow Spaniards Real Madrid.
Chelsea sold Brazilian defender David Luiz to Paris Saint German (PSG) and manager Jose Mourinho has identified Miranda as a perfect replacement for the former Benfica star- contrary to wide spread believe that youngster Kurt Zouma will be given a chance to fight for a first team spot.
The London club recently sent Nigerian defender Kenneth Omuero on a season long loan to Middleborough and the other promising center-back Tomas Kalas, also on loan to German side Cologne as Jose Mourinho again, prefers experience over unpolished talents.
If the Blues seal Miranda’s deal it will make him the third major signing from Atletico Madrid in just a season after they completed deals for Luiz Felipe and Diego Costa.
